The Oklahoma Christian University men’s track team began the first day of its two-day meet at the Kansas Relays.

Before the meet, Landon Huslig said there would be tough competition.

“This meet is going to be crazy,” Huslig said. “We will be pushed extremely well because of the competition. All I want to do is go there and run my best and have fun.”

Brennym Kaelin competed in the 1,500-meters and ran the best time of his career. His time of 3:59.98 placed him 12th out of the 31 runners.

Timothy Zeurcher ran in the 5,000-meters, meeting the national qualifying standard with his time of 15:14.58. This put him at 5th for the race.

Huslig said the rest of this meet will better prepare the team for the national meet.

“This will be a great meet before nationals because the overall times should be faster than nationals and that will push us to run faster, getting us in the mindset for nationals,” Huslig said. “It will also be our first two-day outdoor meet if we can make finals.”

The rest of the Kansas Relays will be held Friday, due to inbound severe weather on Saturday.
