The Lady Eagles soccer team lost 4-1 to Texas Women’s University, concluding the first of the final three games of the season.

Oklahoma Christian University led the game during the first half after Chelsea Key scored the first goal in the 44th minute. Senior Alexis Farrell said the team’s downfall started shortly after that goal.

“During halftime we got confident with our lead so we came on the field not as competitive as we were in the first half,” Farrell said. “So the first goal went in and everybody’s heads went down instead of everybody’s intensity getting higher.”

Rachel Peters shot one of the Pioneer’s 31 total shots and scored in the 48th minute, followed by teammates scoring in the 69th, 84th and 86th minutes. Goalkeeper Carina Schanz recorded seven saves.

The Lady Eagles attempted only eight total shots in the game. Farrell said in order to make a positive change for the remaining two games the team needs to rally together for strength.

“We kind of do put our heads down when we get goals scored on us,” Farrell said. “It’s weird because that’s not how we are in practice when we play against each other. I think change comes from within. It comes from individual players – someone lighting the fire and everyone else following the lead.”
