The Oklahoma Christian University women’s soccer team recorded an additional loss to Dallas Baptist University in an abbreviated game on Oct. 13, after inclement weather raised concerns of injuries among both teams.

The Lady Eagles went into their second conference game against Dallas Baptist with a different mindset.

“After the first half of our season, we committed to ourselves and each other to basically start a new season, to start fresh,” sophomore Amanda Cooper said. “What’s past is past and we need to focus on conference and playing for each other.”

Weather conditions proved challenging for the Lady Eagles, with pouring rain and a 30-35 mph north wind creating a wind chill colder than the 50-degree air temperature, making it difficult for both teams to play with intensity.

Oklahoma Christian battled through the elements but the Lady Patriots found a way to put two goals through before the game was called after 71 minutes of play, which is enough time to be considered a full game, resulting in another loss with a final score of 2-0.

Both Lady Patriot goals came from forward Jolee Patterson with assists from Emilie MacDonald and Ashley Cox. Dallas Baptist outshot the Lady Eagles 15-9. Madeline Roseke led the Eagles in shots with four. Lindsey Williams recorded seven saves.

The scores stood at zero for much of the first half until the tie was finally broken in the 32nd minute when Emilie MacDonald assisted Jolee Patterson for the goal from 12 yards out.

The second goal came after Lady Eagle goalkeeper Lindsey Williams made a save and the ball rebounded straight to Patterson where she put it in for the goal, putting the Patriots ahead 2-0, which would stay true to the final buzzer.

As for shots Oklahoma Christian took advantage of tough weather conditions in the first half, and was leading in shots after half, 8-6. But Dallas Baptist ended the game with a favor in shots taken by the end of the game with a count of 15-9.

Of the Lady Eagles’ nine shots, freshman Madeline Roseke led the way with four, and Estefania Bermudez Delgado and Courtney Nixon each recorded a pair, while Chelsea Key had one. The Lady Eagles earned five corner kicks, the same amount as Dallas Baptist.

Dallas Baptist goalkeeper Kerry Edwards played 6 1/2 minutes and recorded six saves before Madalyn Tschantz subbed in for the final 4:22 of the match. The Lady Eagle goalkeeper added seven saves of her own. Williams recorded one of her seven saves in the 53rd minute on a shot by DBU’s Ashley Cox, but Patterson was there to collect the rebound and score easily, making it 2-0.

The ladies are going to continue to practice hard and compete in practice to get ready for a tough conference schedule coming up, Cooper said.

“I thought our second half against St. Ed’s was some of the best soccer we’ve played all season,” Cooper said. “We put pressure on their back line and despite the result, I thought competed extremely well. This was also true of the Newman game.”

The Lady Eagles fell to St. Mary’s in San Antonio, Texas 4-2 on Oct. 18 and lost 4-1 to Texas A&M International on Oct. 20.

Oklahoma Christian will face Newman University on Oct. 25 in Wichita, Kansas at 5 p.m.
