SGA Cleans Legislation

During a meeting focused on “cleaning” legislation, the Student Government Association (SGA) met last night to discuss funding requests and campus announcements.

Students from Oklahoma Christian University’s Mechanical Engineering department presented a funding request for their annual Baja competition. During this event, students will have the opportunity to build a car from scratch and compete with other qualified Universities.

The team will request $1,950.50 to go toward their vehicle. Senators will vote on the matter next week.

The Constitutional and Rules Committee met to amend Article XII, Section III of the Constitution which stated “Housing improvements shall be primarily funded by housing fees, $10 per semester, and are only used for housing needs which must be kept separate from the SGA’s.”

Senators moved to omit the section as it no longer holds relevance.

The committee also moved to amend Article II, Section IV of the constitution which stated “All issues requiring a vote of the SGA must be presented to the SGA for review at a regular meeting no less than one week prior to consideration. In the meeting in which any issue is presented, the SGA shall decide a date for the measure’s consideration.”

The section now includes states “All issues except Funding Requests presented to the Senate for review at a regular meeting no less than one week prior to consideration.”

In addition to these matter attendees also discussed hosting a “random acts of kindness week” on campus, and the effects of pass/fail courses.

In announcements, the jazz band will host a concert tonight at 8 pm. The Black Student Union and Sundsing will host an Open Mic night tomorrow at 7 pm underneath the pavilion.
