Fresh faces come together to put a new spin on Oklahoma Christian University’s annual Freshman Fanfare.
A large group of students is working to take the stage for the annual Freshman Fanfare.
Freshman Fanfare is one of the first major events to bring the freshman class together every year.
The performance gives students opportunities to connect with peers and contribute to campus life.
Fanfare director and sophomore Nora Watson explains how this year’s show will stand out from previous years.
“We wanted the group acts in between the hosts to have more time on stage so parents and audience members could see everyone for a longer period of time,” Watson said. “This is also the first performance of a show with a new stage.”
Watson explains how this year’s class has risen to the challenge of Fanfare.
“I’m very impressed how they’ve been able to pick it up really well,” Watson said. “They have been able to learn it, and there’s like 120 of them.”
Fanfare director and sophomore Jansen Carter brings past performances and club history to the stage.
“I reused a lot of moves that we did last year and added some new ones from other shows like Chi Lambda Phi’s history, Kappa Sigma Tau’s history, and some from Gamma Rho in there,” Carter said. “It’s a really fun show because it shows every club.”
Mollie Baird, a freshman nursing major, explains what she has enjoyed most about Fanfare.
“I’ve enjoyed getting to learn the dances to new songs and talking to my classmates,” Baird said.
One performance has Baird especially looking forward to this year’s show.
“I would say to see the girls dance because it’s really fun and we have more moves than the group acts,” Baird said.
Baird hints that a popular movie will inspire an act during the show.
“There is one part in the guys’ song and it goes, “I’m just Ken” and I feel like they have some cool moves and lyrics to that song,” Baird said.
Outside of rehearsals, Baird and her friends have found ways to make memories together.
“After practices, we usually go to On Cue and make our own dirty sodas with some girls, so that’s fun,” Baird said.
Landon Eddy, a freshman music major, has enjoyed meeting new people through Fanfare.
“I would say meeting all the new people and learning all the dances, songs, and just having fun,” Eddy said.
Eddy experiences some challenges while preparing for Freshman Fanfare.
“I would say figuring out a handshake with Mollie Baird for the first song,” Eddy said.
Brodie Eddy, a freshman family science and human development major, has also enjoyed making memories during Freshman Fanfare.
“I think that my favorite memory is seeing Jansen doing random stuff all the time and getting rage-bated by all the freshman guys,” Eddy said.
The performances are slated for 7 p.m. Sept. 26 and 2 p.m. Sept. 27 in Baugh Auditorium.
Faculty, staff and students can attend the show for free with an Oklahoma Christian ID. All other tickets are $10 online or at the door. Doors will open 30 minutes before the show.
