Students traded campus for sunny beaches and family games this fall.
Fall break at Oklahoma Christian University took place Oct. 15 to Oct. 19.
Some students went back home while others explored new places.
Sophomore Whitley Pigg spent most of her days along the coast.
“I went to Pensacola, Florida with my family,” Pigg said. “My sister had never been to the beach before, so we were at the beach most of the trip, but we also explored other places in the area.”
Pigg tried something new during her trip.
“I tried paddle boarding for the first time in the bay behind where we were staying and I loved it,” Pigg said.
Pigg describes exploring new places.
“We explored areas like the boardwalk,” Pigg said.
Pigg discovered many new areas on vacation.
“I also went to a coffee shop called Maker’s in downtown Pensacola, and it was very cute,” Pigg said. “I really like coffee, so it’s fun finding spots on vacation.”
Pigg took advantage of the break to enjoy some time away from her usual routine.
“I got to catch up on some reading,” Pigg said. “I love to read, but I can never find the time with my schedule.”
Pigg shared more about her book.
“I read ‘Stone Cold’ by David Baldacci,” Pigg said. “It’s the third in a crime fiction series I’ve been reading.”
Sophomore Shyanne Lowe also traveled out of state for fall break.
“I flew home and hung out with my family in northeast Ohio,” Lowe said.
Lowe made time for the people and activities she misses during the academic year.
“The highlight of the break for me was getting to see my mom because I don’t get to see her a whole lot, but it was getting to see my family and hang out with my older brother,” Lowe said.
She explained how she got into the fall spirit with her family.
“I carved pumpkins with my cousins,” Lowe said. “I made a winky face.”
For Chandler Baker, another sophomore, fall break provided an opportunity to spend more time with people she does not normally see.
“I just gotta hang out with my family,” Baker said. “I gotta watch the OU game, which I normally don’t have time for, so that was nice.”
Spending time at home also gave Baker the chance to partake in friendly competition.
“Me and my cousins played card games like UNO and Trouble,” Baker said.
Baker found another way to spend time with her loved ones.
“My mom’s a teacher, and I got to go to her school and help her with stuff, so that was fun,” Baker said.
Although Baker did many things, one part of the break was especially memorable.
“I think the highlight of my break was just getting to be with my family,” Baker said.
Baker also appreciated time with her mom.
“I went shopping with my mom,” Baker said.
From spending time in the sun to being with loved ones, students made use of their time away from school.
