Distinguished Alumni: Excellence in Mathematics, Education and History

Each year, the departments of Oklahoma Christian University select an alumnus to represent and honor during the homecoming season through the Distinguished Alumni Award.

The heads of the mathematics, education and history departments spoke with the Talon about their respective alumni.

Dr. Jenifer Bryan, Chair of the Mathematics Department, spoke about the distinguished mathematics alumnus, Laura Harvey.

Harvey is now a Fellow of Society Actuaries at American Fedelities. Fellow alumna Kourtney Beard now manages the Research and Development department at the same company. Both alumni were part of the American Fidelity Internship as students and have now gone on to be employed full time.

“I wanted to highlight any of our alumni at American Fidelity who had done the internship program and then were employed there full time,” Bryan said. “I also wanted to highlight the different paths they had taken to show all the different careers you can get with a degree in mathematics.”

Dr. Kelli Dudley, associate professor of education, spoke about the education department’s distinguished alumni Kindra Anderson, who is now working as an intervention teacher in Watts, California.

“When deciding the School of Education’s Notable Alumni, the faculty seek graduates who are making a difference in their community, school district, classroom and, most importantly, in the lives of children,” Dudley said. “Kindra Anderson’s effectiveness as an educator, the honors she received from her school district and the positive, national attention she garnered for the field of education through her appearance on the Today Show distinguished her as a well-deserved honoree.”

The history and political science department, headed by Dr. Trey Orndorff, is recognizing Mike Osborn, a 1990 Oklahoma Christian graduate.

Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, Osborn attended the University of Oklahoma and further studied law. Throughout the ‘90s, he held various political jobs, such as working with Oklahoma governor Frank Keating and as a political director for the state’s Republican Party.

Osborn also has his own career in politics, being elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2016 and currently serving his third term in office.

Oklahoma Christian alumni are invited to celebrate Homecoming on Nov. 5, 2022. Various social service clubs are offering an alumni breakfast at 8 a.m. followed by a school-wide chapel at 10.

Homecoming will also consist of a parade showcasing clubs and various organizations throughout campus and will end with the Lady Eagles and Eagles basketball games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
