Oklahoma Christian University welcomed seven new faculty members to campus this semester, including Travis Montgomery and Dana McMichael – two newest additions to the Department of Language and Literature.
“What excites me most about Oklahoma Christian is that the majors here are excellent,” Montgomery said. “I enjoy watching them move into this next phase of life. They all have such wonderful talent.”
Travis Montgomery is an Oklahoma Christian alumnus. He earned a doctorate at the University of Mississippi, and then taught at a state school in Mississippi from 2003 to 2015.
Montgomery specializes in American Literature and is teaching literature courses.
When he is not teaching, Travis Montgomery enjoys singing with his wife, both of whom are musicians.
Dana McMichael came from Abilene Christian University, and will be teaching freshmen composition courses in the department.
McMichael said she is excited about the students she will be teaching.
“The students have been so welcoming and fun,” McMichael said. “They have such energy, and I love that I have students from all over the world.”
Like Montgomery, McMichael graduated from Oklahoma Christian in 1983.
“I always knew I wanted to come back,” McMichael said. “I had such a good experience at Oklahoma Christian, and I am glad I get to share that experience with others.”
Besides teaching, McMichael said she loves spending time with her family, especially her son Joshua.
Next Wednesday The Talon will feature other new Oklahoma Christian professors.
