The Student Government Association met on Aug. 17 for their first senate meeting of the semester.
Micah Burke, the Executive President of SGA, outlined three goals and expectations for the organization in the 2022-23 school year.
The first goal is to promote retention. This will encourage students to participate in activities promoted by SGA. The second goal is to showcase unity within the student body by promoting inclusivity. The third goal is to provide transparency, communication and accountability within SGA.
These goals, as outlined by Burke, will provide more communication about events related to SGA, bridge the gap between the student body and the administrative body and provide more transparency to all.
New SGA sponsored events were also discussed. The activities committee outlined ideas for fall activities, including a Fall Fest in September. Other upcoming events include Rush events for the social clubs, The Dodger’s Game SGA will be providing discounted tickets for and a volleyball tournament sponsored by Campus Spirit.
The meeting concluded with ending announcements by Burke. Her vision for SGA this school year is for the organization to live out the motto “Love Your Neighbor as Yourself.” Burke explained this motto should be lived out by communicating, listening to others and serving those surrounding us through the organization’s activities. The final words spoken were a chant: “Go serve, go love.”
