SGA Weekly Update

The Student Government Association met on Sept. 7 for their weekly senate meeting. The discussion centered around a funding request, a few words from President John DeSteiguer and updated events from Eagle Eye

There was a funding request from the PME committee, which is the Music Department’s Social Organization. The Music Department will be hosting a fundraiser event to promote their social club and to raise money for the department’s needs.

This event will be held at the Pavilion on Saturday, Sept. 24th from 2:30-5:30 p.m. The event will feature games, food and activities, as well as a tye-dying event  costing $7. All are welcome to attend. 

The meeting moved to President John DeSteiguer discussing a few of his goals with the SGA. He mentioned his appreciation for SGA stepping up and taking action in serving the student body.

“I’m very grateful you’re willing to serve on SGA. It’s very important, and I think it’s a really great thing,”  DeSteiguer said. 

The president went on to talk about  retention rates and explained his goal for Oklahoma Chrisitian University as having at least 80% returning students for a second year of school. The president also mentioned his want for the university was it to be a comfortable environment for students and faculty alike. 

“Oklahoma Christian wants to provide a campus which is workable, good, comfortable and attractive,”  DeSteigeur said. The president asked SGA to keep ideas coming about improvements to be made throughout the year. 

Eagle Eye presented the upcoming events around campus. There will be a Swimming Intrasqaud at Mitch Park on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. There will also be a men’s soccer game against Harding University on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 3 p.m.

The organization fair will follow on Sept. 16 from 11-1 p.m. Freshmen Fanfare will happen the same weekend, Sept. 16-17, and Date Week will occur during the week of Sept. 16th.
