SGA Weekly Update

On Wednesday, Feb. 16th, the Oklahoma Christian University Student Government Organization had their weekly meeting; the following are the highlights.

Members discussed the budget for the next academic year in regards to SGA, Spring Sing and other student organizations. SGA wants to ensure an evenly distributed budget to benefit different events and groups.

Regarding funding requests, SGA discussed the 50% rule within the SGA constitution, allowing SGA to fund only 50% of any funding request. SGA is moving to make this applicable to school conference-related requests.

Constitution amendments are voted on first by the senate and then by the student body.

There is also a push to amend the minimum GPA requirement from 2.0 to 2.5 for executive positions. This amendment would parallel the 2.5 GPA requirement most clubs have for officer positions .

SGA is looking to provide the option for an election counsel, and there is a movement to require the counsel be used every year during elections. Oklahoma Chrisitian will rely  on the student handbook to campaign for this in the future.

Along with these bigger issues, SGA discussed upcoming on-campus events including: Cabaret performances; the rest of Random Acts of Kindness week; and the Civil Rights Spring Break trip. SGA also encourages the student body to support sporting events at Oklahoma Chrisitian.

Contact SGA with any concerns or ideas.
