Over the past few months, the nation has seen one of the most dramatic election cycles in American history. Both the Democratic and Republican tickets offer voters starkly contrasting choices for the country’s future.
With policy stances being more important than ever before, both the Trump and Harris campaigns have placed emphasis on issues such as immigration, the southern border, the economy, inflation and foreign aid.
In a desperate attempt to appeal to moderate voters, Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris has supposedly flip-flopped her position on immigration and the need for a southern border wall and fracking.
Constantly changing positions seems to be second nature for Harris, but the spotlight on her wobbly policy stances has become harsher since her breakthrough onto the main political stage following President Joe Biden’s announcement to suspend his presidential campaign.
Conveniently, Harris is changing her proposed policies to better align with moderate swing state voters, as any truly radical statements or stands would most likely decimate her hopes for the White House.
In the past few days, Harris has changed her position on fracking, a hotly contested issue in the swing states of Michigan and Pennsylvania, where a large amount of fracking in the United States takes place.
Once upon a time, Harris was vehemently against harvesting natural gas and petroleum, wishing to ban fracking entirely.
“During a September 2019 climate crisis town hall hosted by CNN, Harris was asked if she would commit to implementing a federal ban on fracking on her first day in office.
‘There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking, and starting with what we can do on Day 1 around public lands,’ Harris said at the time.
“Harris acknowledged that it would take legislation to restrict fracking beyond federal lands, and pointed to the residual health impacts of fracking on local communities,” according to CNN.
Now, Harris is playing to a different tune: she supports no ban on fracking. Votes seem to matter more than being contradictory in front of the nation.
In similar fashion, Vice President Harris has also started to change her policy about any action on the border crisis.
Under the Trump administration, Democrats on Capitol Hill were passionately against any idea, funding, or construction of a border wall, with Kamala Harris herself joining the voices naming the border wall to be against American values.
Predictably, Harris has changed once again on her once-hated border wall.
“If she’s elected president, Kamala Harris pledges to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on the wall along the southern border — a project she once opposed and called “un-American” during the Trump administration.
“Harris is embracing a more hawkish immigration policy as Donald Trump’s campaign spends tens of millions of dollars attacking her about the border,” according to Axios.
Furthermore, Vice President Harris has also changed her position in opposition to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as a law enforcement agency, she has voiced support for a bipartisan border security bill (despite being in office under the current presidential administration where she can take action) and she has flipped on her stance on “Medicare for All,” a legislative effort to abolish the private healthcare insurance system.
The Democratic nominee for president of the United States seems unable to stick to where she stands on key policies that could make or break the Union.
The American people must decide whether or not they wish for someone with such behavior to be commander-in-chief of the most powerful nation in the free world.
