The Oklahoma Christian University men’s cross-country team concluded its 2015 season at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Meet after failing to qualify for the NCAA DII Championship on Saturday.
Senior Brennym Kaelin said despite the unfortunate results, he believes the team had the talent to qualify on any other day.
“If I had to toe the line again with another chance to make nationals, I would want the exact same group of guys along side me,” Kaelin said. “I’m that confident that on the right day, we would’ve made it. This just wasn’t our day.”
Kaelin led the Eagles at the meet in Canyon, Texas, placing 33rd with his time of 31:31.4, followed immediately by Roberto Diaz’s 34th-place time of 31:33.1.
Timothy Zuercher finished two slots later at 36th with a 31:36.8 and Kyle Broaddrick’s 32:08.7 earned 53rd. Bryant Keirns rounded up the Eagles’ top five runners with a 32:39.3.
Sisay Gillock earned 92nd with a 33:11.1 and Evan Durrill finished 155th in 35:38.1.
Kaelin said he was content with the team’s performance this season.
“I think we are pleased with how we competed throughout the course of the season,” Kaelin said. “And even though we didn’t quite accomplish our end goal, we can walk away satisfied with all of our hard work and with another good season.”
The runners will rest for the remainder of 2015 before many of them return to compete in the indoor track season beginning in January.
