OC’s first Division II All-Region honoree finishes cross country season

The Lady Eagles cross-country team placed 15th at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Meet on Saturday. Layne Hammer led the team as she became Oklahoma Christian University’s first NCAA Division II All-Region honoree with a 14th-place individual finish.

Hammer’s time of 21:51.3 missed the final qualifying time by four-tenths of a second at the meet in Canyon, Texas. Maci Rich was the Lady Eagles’ second runner, placing 69th with a 23:25.5. Aubrey Watson’s 23:54.7 earned her the 93rd slot.

Katie Jones and Molly McQuirk finished back-to-back with times of 24:41.6 and 24:41.9, respectively, to earn the 132nd and 133rd spots.

Tara Lewis placed 149th with a time of 25:20.6 and Rachel Meyers ran a 27:29.7 to earn 162nd.

Oklahoma Christian placed 15th as a team out of 23 schools.

The NCAA Division II Regional Meet was the final competition of the 2015 season for the Lady Eagles. Many of the runners will join the track team in January for the 2016 indoor track season.
