Entertainment Update: The Force Awakens

As finals come to an end, students can plan to celebrate by seeing the new releases hitting the big screens this week.

The force is back. The long awaited film, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is hyperspeeding to theaters. 30 years after the events of “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi,” the next generation of Jedi and heroes must fight the approaching evil.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens” stars Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. The film also stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher from the original saga. The movie will be in theaters Dec. 18.

Alvin, Simon and Theodore are off on another adventure. Everything is changing in the chipmunks’ lives from growing up to family. Once they are led to believe that Dave will propose to his new girlfriend and leave them behind, they must stop him before it is too late.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip” stars Jason Lee with the vocal talents of Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney.

Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler are at it again. Two sisters who are very different, as well as best friends, are reunited when their parents decide to sell their childhood home. This could only mean one thing: Party!

When his father is kidnapped and held at ransom, a man must go through great lengths to get him back. Along with an old friend, he must fight the CIA and the threats holding his dad.

Extraction” stars Bruce Willis, Gina Carano and Kellan Lutz.

As a Jewish prisoner confined to Auschwitz in 1944, a man had to burn the corpses of his people, including his own son. As he tries to survive without him, he regrets never being the father he should have been. This Hungarian made film, “Son of Saul,” stars Geza Rohrig, Levente Molnar and Urs Rechn.
