Students travel for fall break

Although many Oklahoma Christian University students stayed on campus for fall break, some students took the opportunity to leave campus and travel.

Junior Natalie Little said she planned to go on a trip for fall break since the beginning of the semester. She drove to Colorado Springs, CO with friends Caroline Hose, Katie Holroyd and Kyleigh Marquez.

“We went here to just get away from everything, and we all have a love for the outdoors, and Colorado has a special place in our hearts,” Little said.

According to Little, they spent much of the trip hiking at places like the Garden of the Gods and Red Rock Canyon. They also shopped at Ladyfingers Printing Press and the Rocky Mountain Soap Market.

“From hiking, we went to the U.S. Air Force Academy and toured the campus,” Little said. “They have a chapel on the campus that is just so beautiful. I went there when I was little with my grandpa, so to go there with my some of my closest friends was really awesome to do.”

Sophomore Lena Shiplet also traveled for fall break. She visited the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN to celebrate her 21st birthday.

“We pretty much just did the shopping,” Shiplet said. “I did, however, get to make my own color in the Crayola store, which was absolutely fun. I also ate at Johnny Rockets, and I went through an aquarium that was there in the mall.”

Although Shiplet said she thinks the break is beneficial, she also believes students who have a lot of homework to get done or exams to study for do not get much of a break. Little, however, said she believes fall break, though short, is important to have.

“I think for a lot of people, this time is sometimes the most difficult part of the semester,” Little said. “For me, it’s just nice to have this break because it just gives me a few days to clear my head and not have to worry about school stuff.”

According to Little, her trip away from campus helped mentally prepare her to finish the rest of the semester.
