See Y’all Later

When I first mentioned an opening at the Talon to my dad, he immediately had me fill out an application. Two years later I am now writing my final story.

After a bit of a bumpy start trying to learn how to write in a different style, I settled in on covering intramurals and boy howdy, was that a game changer. Getting to cover all the action this last year has been an absolute blast, and I hope readers got a kick out of seeing their friends earn their well earned recognition (or at least got a kick ranting about my takes on athlete of the week).

Getting to learn how to write stories as a journalist has been such a joy. I love the relationships I have built through journalism and how I have been able to use this skill to write about something I am passionate about. I have been overwhelmed with blessing after blessing that writing for the Talon has given me. From learning more names, to hearing everyone’s stories, to seeing both the joy and hatred from who got hyped up in a feature the previous week.

I really do hope that the weekly sports article can continue in some fashion moving forward, and want to encourage those interested in checking it out. I have built meaningful friendships through the Talon, and the scholarship that helped cover the cost of tuition was just icing on the cake. Writing for the Talon has helped me understand journalism, writing in AP style, and creating a story for the reader.
