The Lady Eagles’ sprinters and relay teams highlighted the final meet of the regular indoor season at the Oklahoma Baptist Indoor Invitational on Feb. 14.

Senior Wilmina Gley said preparation for Saturday was turned up a notch, as it was the last indoor meet and because there were favorable weather conditions to aid their preparation.

“Practice is a little more intense this week,” Gley said. “We certainly have great sunny weather this week and hence we are using it to our best advantage on the track. There was more stamina, buildups and speed workouts preparing us for this week’s meet.

The sprinters were the highlight of the meet as Paradise Henson and Rebecca Bloodworth both posted season-best and national-qualifying times in their respective events.

Henson finished seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.89 seconds, which qualified her for the Indoor Championship meet next Friday and Saturday in Cedarville, Ohio.

Henson also competed for the first time on one of Oklahoma Christian University’s relay teams. She anchored the 4×200 relay team, which posted a time of 1:49.11 that was a season-best and a national-qualifier.

Gley said this meet was quite a bit more intense then any of the others so far this season.

“This is definitely the most stressful meet because this is the last meet for everyone to qualify in their individual races and qualify for nationals,” Gley said. “So definitely, everybody has to bring their A-game on this week in order to have a good time and place well.”

Gley was the third leg of the 4×200 relay team that posted their season-best time in that race.

Bloodworth, who led off the Lady Eagles relay team, also posted a season-best time in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.09, also a national-qualifier.

Gley said this meet went very well for her team.

“Most of my teammates placed well and did great on their runs, placing them in the top three in their events,” Gley said. “Overall, our training this week prepared us for this meet and it paid off. This just shows that hard work pays off when there is unity and focus.”

Track and Field Head Coach Randy Heath said he is proud of his team and is ready for the national meet.

“We didn’t compete in very many events at OBU, but we still had a good showing and we are ready for the national meet next weekend,” Heath said.

This meet concluded the indoor track season for the Lady Eagles. They will compete in the Indoor Championships next weekend in Cedarville, Ohio.
