The Center for Global Missions offers summer mission internships for students to participate in ministries across the globe.

Locations include Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Croatia, Greece, Honduras, Ireland, New Zealand, Panama, Rwanda, Tanzania and Vanuatu.

Last year, 20 student interns traveled to eight different countries.

The Center for Global Mission summer internship is about giving students the opportunity to see what it’s really like to be a missionary in a cross-cultural context.

“It’s like a internship that they are working under someone,” Langford said. “But they are working specifically under Christian leaders or missionaries.”

The internships are designed to spiritually form students into the image of God and his mission in the world. It will be done through cross-cultural ministry, sharing faith, encouraging maturing churches and working with an experienced mission team that will mentor interns.

“You will go six to eight weeks.” Langford said. “We want to simulate what life is like living in a different country in working in cross-cultural ministry.”

Students who work in the internship will learn the language and culture of the location.

“I went to Vienna,” Daven Hart, Bible major, said. “The city is beautiful and the people are incredible. Everywhere you go you are surrounded by culture.”

On the mission internships, students will also be involved in mission work and live with a missionary.

“My most memorable experience from this summer was spending four days in the alps for an area wide retreat with the local churches,” Hart said. “Spending that time worshiping and growing together was the most incredible time. I love getting to spend that time with the brothers and sisters in Christ and working together to grow spiritually.”

Students will live like the local people during the summer mission internships.

“I studied abroad two years ago and met the people in Vienna,” Hart said. “This was my second summer interning in Vienna. I have fallen in love with my family there and the relationships that I have formed.”

Before the students depart, they have to go through a fundraising process for their trip.

Each person has to raise approximately $4,000 to cover all expenses associated with the internship and they must pay a $100 administrative fee once accepted.

According to Kale Thomas, freshman general business major, the Center for Global Missions helps the students with their fundraising efforts.

“What encourages me to go was to see if I could do long term missions,” Thomas said. “I think that long term missions could be a possible future for me, and this is one of the best way to try it out.”

The summer mission internships are not only for missions or ministry majors, but any student with the will to serve can apply.

Students can apply for the internships online. Each internship has a different timeline based on location. The last day to apply is Nov. 1.

“Going on my internships has opened so many doors for me and given me so much that I could have ever imaged,” Hart said. “The bonds I have formed and the experiences I’ve had have taught me so much about the love of Christ. I am always so incredibly grateful for my family abroad that I have gotten the chance to grow and learn along side such amazing people and have expanded my family across the world.”
