Introducing the 2022 Homecoming Court

Oklahoma Christian University has announced their 2022 Homecoming court with three king and three queen candidates. The senior class selected these students to represent them during the Homecoming season.

The Homecoming king and queen will be announced in between the women’s and men’s basketball games on Saturday, Nov. 5. Here is an introduction to your 2022 Homecoming court.

Jemma Arbuckle

Major: Early Childhood and Elementary Education

Hometown: Edmond, Oklahoma

What does it mean to you to be a part of homecoming royalty?

It is a true honor to be a part of homecoming royalty. My dad said it best: “Other people see how sweet I already knew you were.” I hope people see the qualities of a good student, a good friend, a good leader and a good Christian in me and that’s why I was nominated. Whether that is true or not, it is crazy people nominated me thinking I would be a good candidate to represent OC.

What does it mean to carry a ‘legacy’ after your time at Oklahoma Christian?

Legacy is a strong word and it scares me to think I have and will have a legacy here. I love helping others, being involved, being a leader and doing my best in all I do. I hope my legacy is that. I also hope my legacy is one that embodies love for everyone and helps to spread joy around campus. I do not want to leave a legacy of my name, but of Christ’s.

Lucas Martinez

Major: Biology with a Pre-Med Emphasis

Hometown: Duncan, Oklahoma

What does homecoming mean to you?

It is one of the most uniting events on campus in that, while clubs compete to win, it brings everyone together to celebrate the start of the basketball season and other OC traditions each and every year. Homecoming is an amazing time for alumni to come back and visit OC and for current students to represent their respective clubs and show off what they were able to accomplish to everyone that visits this weekend.

How has your time at Oklahoma Christian influenced your plans for the future?

My time on this campus has shown me what a true community of Christians loving one another looks like and makes me want to work for that in my future career. From the classroom to the lunchroom and even around the campus as a whole, everyone is loving and encouraging towards one another and it inspires me to find that in the future. I plan to continue growing closer to God with those here at OC even after I graduate and move on, but coming here has influenced my path and makes me strive to find a loving community just like the one here on campus.

Austin McNair

Major: Marketing Management with a Sales emphasis. Minors in Biology and Exercise Science

Hometown: Denton, Texas

What does it mean to carry a ‘legacy’ after your time at Oklahoma Christian?

To leave a legacy behind is the entire purpose of showing up every day and working hard. If I can help leave the Track or Cross country team or Delta in a better place than when I got here, it would mean everything.

How has your time at Oklahoma Christian influenced your plans for the future?

I did a complete 180 career change after my sophomore year and everybody here supported me and gave me great advice to help lead me in the right direction. I have learned that whatever I do, do it to the best of my ability and put God at the forefront of it.

Payton Merideth

Major: Human Development and Family Science

Hometown: Edmond, Oklahoma

What does it mean to you to be a part of homecoming royalty?

I am extremely flattered to be a part of homecoming royalty, knowing that at least some people find me to be a good representation of the senior class. It makes me feel like I have made a positive impression on campus.

How has your time at Oklahoma Christian influenced your plans for the future?

The biggest impact OC has had on me is through the community. Because of how much I have loved the people here, it is extra important to me in the future to have a strong, loving community around me, no matter where I live.

Levi Whiddon

Major: Finance

Hometown: Waco, Texas

What does homecoming mean to you?

From my perspective, homecoming is a time of competition. Clubs compete to show school and club pride, and it all builds up to the basketball game, where the two teams go out and compete in their first home game of the season.

What does it mean to carry a ‘legacy’ after your time at Oklahoma Christian?

I view it (legacy) as carrying all of the values taught here at OC into the world and continuing to maintain those values.

Taylor Barnett

Major: Interdisciplinary (Psychology, Family Science, and Bible)

Hometown: Arlington, Texas

What does it mean to carry a ‘legacy’ after your time at Oklahoma Christian?

I think carrying a legacy means people remembering me for always making people feel like they’re my best friend.

How has your time at Oklahoma Christian influenced your plans for the future?

My time at OC has equipped me to be a hard worker and a good friend.
