Making a play on a former athlete of the week can be chalked up to just luck. Making multiple plays is a different story. Allie Neilson did just that earlier this week in the last game of the regular season. Needing a win to move on to playoffs, Neilson played hard and came out on top despite strong resistance from Iota Kappa Phi. While Neilson’s athleticism is great, her awareness and general volleyball skill is what makes her elite, as she has taken her talents to coaching the freshmen boys team this season as well.

1. What’s it like on the court playing with the rest of your team?

I love playing with them. It’s always kind of rough, but we figure it out by the end. We’re a pretty clutch team.

2. Coming into the last game of the season it’s do or die for Theta. What was the game plan going into the game?

Be aggressive and don’t let the ball fall. I was telling my teammates that as long as we get the serve over, we’ll be fine. It’s the smaller parts of volleyball that matter.

3. Good news, you made the playoffs. Bad news, you’re going to rematch the one-seed. What’s your game plan?

Just got to get the girls hyped up. We’ve played close with a lot of our opponents, so we’re still in it.

Kappa had one of the roughest starts to the intramural season, sitting last in the all-sports standings after . Despite this, Kappa is not out of it yet. A win in the A league for flag football and now Nick Gimotty holding on to his title as ping pong singles champion is very much keeping Kappa in the race for all-sports. With this championship title, Gimotty can call himself a two-time singles champion and intramural athlete of the week.

1. So, it’s your second straight year winning the ping pong championship. How does it feel?

Feels great, you know? I put in a lot of work over the offseason and trained hard. It’s great to see the hard work pay off.

2. Kappa had a rough softball season and are still behind Chi and Delta in the all-sports standings. How does it feel knowing more first place points are going to Kappa with this win than other clubs?

Kappa definitely isn’t in the position we want to be in right now. But we’ve done the math, and we’re still in it. Winning football was big, and this will help us too. At the end of the day though, we just love to compete.

3. Any other sports you’re looking forward to?

I always like playing basketball during the spring semester. But honestly, any sport against my fellow competitor Brandon Jones is an absolute delight. It’s truly a treat to play against him.
