Lady Eagles break personal records in Missouri

The Lady Eagles posted six career-best 5,000-meter times at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Missouri on Saturday.

On the course that will host the NCAA championship, Oklahoma Christian University shined. Layne Hammer, Aubrey Watson, Rachel Meyers, Molly McQuirk, Sarah Cobb and Aubree Hughes all posted career-best times. The Lady Eagles finished 14th as a team with a score of 399.

Hammer led the Eagles for the second consecutive meet with her time of 18:14.38, which earned her 20th. Among the Heartland Conference schools that competed, Hammer finished third individually.

Maci Rich placed 78th with her time of 19:21.17. Freshman Watson was not too far behind with her time of 19:34.76, placing her at 96th. Hughes was competing in only her second college career meet and was timed at 22:12.67 — placing her 213th.

As a team, the Lady Eagles finished third in points among the Heartland Conference teams participating. Dallas Baptist University and St. Mary’s University were the only two conference teams to finish ahead of Oklahoma Christian.

Other times for Oklahoma Christian included freshmen — Meyers and McQuirk finished two places apart. Meyers clocked a time of 20:00.78, which earned 123rd place. Following her close behind came McQuirk at 125th with a posted time of 20:06.11.

The Lady Eagles will travel to Stillwater on Saturday where they compete in the Oklahoma State University Cowboy Jamboree.
