Entertainment Update: new music and movies hit the city

A weekend of murder, music and movies, new events are coming to town.

Everyone who has ever met Jack has thought about killing him. The best way for artist Jack Brooks to become famous is for him to die. With red herrings, suspense devices, blackmail and a fake corpse, the play “Art of Murder” will keep the audience guessing.

“Art of Murder” will be staged at the Carpenter Square Theatre on Oct. 16 through Nov. 7. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Spend Saturday night with a little music as Augustin Hadelich plays the violin with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. “Tall Tales, Magic and Majesty” is on Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. at the Civic Center.

A boy and a war – the new film “Beasts of No Nation” is based on the experiences of Agu, a child soldier in the civil war of an African country.

The film stars Idris Elba, Abraham Attah and Ama K. Abebrese. It will be released to theaters and Netflix on Oct. 16.

Prepare for books and nostalgia to come to life. “Goosebumps” is about a teenager who teams up with the daughter of an author after the writer’s imaginary demons come to life.

The film stars Jack Black, Dylan Minnette and Odeya Rush.

After a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between the love for her childhood friend and the temptation of an outsider. While she is trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she gets swept into a house that bleeds, breathes and remembers.

Crimson Peak” stars Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain and Tom Hiddleston.

An American lawyer is employed by the CIA during the Cold War to help rescue a pilot confined in the Soviet Union. “Bridge of Spies” stars Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance and Alan Alda.

An Irish sports journalist becomes convinced that banned substances fuel Lance Armstrong’s performances in the course of his Tour de France victories. While convinced, he goes hunting for evidence that will expose Armstrong.

The Program” stars Lee Pace, Jesse Plemons and Ben Foster.

In the film “Woodlawn,” a high school football player must learn to accept his talent and faith as he battles the racial tensions on and off the field. The movie stars Caleb Castille, Sean Astin and Jon Voight.
