Oklahoma Christian University’s Career Services is offering students the opportunity to take the next step in finding a job through a week of career oriented events on Sept. 28-30.

“The career fair is going to be the great chance to not only apply for different places but also to network with people,” junior Preston Coleman said. “It’s so awesome that we are able to meet different individuals.”

The Monopolize Your Career week has three different sections. On Monday, Ryan Groves, Oklahoma Christian alumnus and co-founder of Wishing Well, will talk about the importance of internships.

Groves will be speaking at 6 p.m. in the Adams Recital Hall (an Ethos approved event).

Tuesday consists of two events, one during chapel and then another event following at 12 p.m. Oklahoma Christian Professors Burt Smith will speak on networking and interview manners in the Adams Recital Hall at 11 a.m. The event at noon is a networking training with the Niagara Bottling Company Recruiting Team. Students must register in advance for this event.

The last day of the event is a standard career fair on Wednesday; Oklahoma Christian has more than 30 employers participating.

“I’m suggesting that every students who wants to attend should register for the career fair through Eagles at Work,” Candace Owens, Career Services director, said.

Each year, Career Services help students get ready for the career fair.

“Career Services has so many resources to get [students] ready for [career fair],” Coleman said. “I’ve been [to career services] a few times this year. They do such a great job.”

This year, Oklahoma Christian students can go through Eagles at Work to prepare for the career fair.

“I love the fact that career services has [Eagles at Work] now,” Coleman said. “[Eagles at Work] has so much awesome information about the local internships, internships far ways, and even job positions.”

In order to prepare for job interviews, there are some tips for students.

“Definitely dress professional,” Owens said. “Make sure that you have your resumes ready to be passed out, and research the company that you are interested. That will make good impression with employers that you meet.”

Owens said she is always available to help students at the career services office, located on the first floor of Heritage Plaza.

“If you have any question about your resume or anything,” Owens said. “Feel free to stop by Career Services. We’re here to help you succeed, and we want to help you.”
