Alumni create a platform to connect students and alumni

Oklahoma Christian University alumni Kevin Lawrence and Connor Lankford worked together to create a platform to combine talents of the students and resources of the alumni, in hopes to better serve the community.

After graduating from Oklahoma Christian in 2001 and 2015, respectively, Lawrence and Lankford formed an investment company, CKL Capitol, to invest and encourage current students to use their skills through a platform called Thoomazo. Thoomazo is a mobile app, premiering in mid-February, highlighting various student services for alumni to potentially hire.

“[At] Thoomazo.com there will be a list of services to scroll through, like house cleaning, car repair, yard work, dog walking/grooming and elderly care,” Lawrence said. “You can click on the option you want and then it would show the person providing that option with a date that you can schedule and finally an option for payment.”

Thoomazo derives from the Greek language and means “amazed” or “marveled.”. According to Lawrence and Lankford, the primary goal of Thoomazo is connecting students and alumni together. The hourly rates will vary based on the type of service.

“For now, the main idea is for alumni and students to come together for business utilizing resources from the alums and talent from the students—a way to provide students with some extra spending money,” Lankford said.

Both alumni are currently employed within the banking industry, actively involved in financial footings and constantly searching for outlets to connect students and alumni while additionally helping students grow and produce a small profit.

“The process has been coming up with ideas and pitching them off to each other and meeting with people who have the capability to put a website together and functioning—meeting with people who know how to do that, telling them what we are looking for and they go out and build the website,” Lankford said.

Lawrence doubles as a college minister at Westwood Church of Christ. He said he enjoys the role of mentoring current students and watching their skills develop. Lawrence said he takes notice of the students who are talented and hard workers—and he wanted to find a way to help them with a jumpstart.

“We are targeting OC alums [and also the Edmond community] who want to encourage students, who feel the same way I do,” Lawrence said. “It is a passion for helping students reach their maximum potential and this is a way for students to develop and utilize their talents.”

Lawrence and Lankford said they hope to expand the operations within the next year and encourage those interested to contact Oklahoma Christian alumnus Coby Poole. As of the first of February, Lawrence and Lankford have coordinated services from:

Coby Poole, Alum (2017): Operations

Seth Reiter, Alum (2016): App development

Alana Seal, student: House cleaning

Dawson Waugh, student: Auto detailing/repair, home repair, and yard work

Kacy Jo Nash, student: Dog walking/grooming

Maegen Becker, student: Elderly care
