The Robin Hoods and Little Johns of Kappa Sigma Tau snagged the first place Spring Sing award, ending Chi Lambda Phi’s five-year winning streak.
The last time Kappa received a first place Spring Sing victory was in 1999. Kappa also won awards for Faculty and Staff Favorite, Best Choreography, Best Lyrics and Best Vocals.
Second place went to Psi Epsilon. Psi received four awards as Han Solo and Chewbacca from “Star Wars.” Their honors include Most Original, Best Banner, Best Video and the Tealridge Golden Cane Award.
Chi Lambda Phi secured third place as famous explorers Lewis and Clark. This year marked the end of Chi’s five-year winning streak.
The women of Gamma Rho received fourth place and best costume for their routine as strawberries and pineapples. Gamma has placed in the top four performances for the past 12 years.
The Student Favorite award went to Pi Zeta Phi’s performance as the wicked stepsisters from “Cinderella.” The Audience Favorite Award, voted online by audience members, went to the women of Theta Theta Theta for their performance as D.J. Tanner and Kimmy Gibbler from “Full House.”
Kappa Spring Sing Director Scott Ulrich said the victory came from the unity of his club members.
“Honestly, what won us first place was everyone else,” Ulrich said. “Really the back rows are what got us first place, everyone critiquing each other…and the team effort.”
Ulrich said he is excited about winning first place, but more importantly, he is proud of the creativity incorporated into Kappa Spring Sing show.
“I hope to keep on continuing the creativity that we’ve had the past few years,” Ulrich said. “That’s my favorite part – keeping the audience entertained. First place it doesn’t matter as much as entertaining the audience.”
